Madonna in Malawi, won’t address adoption rumors

Madonna toured a village Sunday in the central African nation of Malawi, but she refused to answer questions about reports that she was there to adopt a 4-year-old girl.

Officials said Madonna would begin proceedings this week to adopt a girl, according to The Associated Press.

Madonna, casually dressed with a white fedora, walked through the village of Chinkota holding the hand of her 12-year-old daughter, Lourdes.

The 50-year-old pop star said it was “amazing” to be back in the country where she runs a charity and from which she adopted son David, 3, last year. She discussed plans to build a school in the country.

According to Ralph Appelbaum, last year more than 30 million people passed through a museum or exhibition created by his New York-based firm. If that number is true, then Appelbaum isn’t just the head of the world’s largest museum and exhibit design firm, he is one of the most influential educators of our time. It’s unlikely that you know his name, but the chances are good that if you’ve been to a museum in the past two decades, you’ve seen his work, or the work of other designers trying to imitate his work.

Be honest: where are you shopping right now? Is there a place that you love to virtually browse, or a new store that you’re just going wild over? I feel like my shopping alliances change seasonally according to what’s being offered and how. For example, eShakti just came out with a new knits line that I am loving, loving, loving, and OneStopPlus has a bunch of nice straw hats. I’m also really into local shopping in person (JCPenney and Worths), and I’m keeping my eyes on Evans London to see if they surprise this year.

Back in a bikini for the first time in 30 years, Valerie Bertinelli shows off her new figure on the cover of the latest issue of People (Visit their site). The petite actress, who will celebrate her 49th birthday next month, dieted and exercised her way back to her bikini body. According to People, Valerie Bertinelli experienced some anxiety about posing in a bikini but then she told herself, “If I’m so afraid of a bikini, theres something wrong. And so I had to get back into one!.”

Not every 48-year-old or even every 21-year-old woman feels comfortable wearing a bikini, but if you’re a petite woman who has fitting problems with one-piece swimsuits, a bikini can certainly be an alterative. In many cases, tops and bottoms can be purchased separately, which makes fitting easier because you can buy one size for the top and a different size for the bottom, if necessary. Also, there’s quite a range of coverage available from minimal to fuller.

I am among the countless numbers of fans who were deeply saddened to learn that Natasha Richardson passed away after an injury suffered during a skiing lesson. She’s always been a favorite of mine, because of her talent and because she was genuine, and because she gave us a glimpse of her feelings and personality — even during press events where so many others primp and preen for the cameras. I wasn’t certain this gallery should be published, but as I looked at the photos of Natasha (many taken with beloved family members) and saw her warmth and incredible smile, I knew it would be my way to pay a small tribute to a timeless woman’s timeless style.
